**UPDATE** Sayre Fire – 14 Freeway

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reports that SR 14 is now expected to open later this evening; the southbound lanes will open first, followed by the northbound lanes.

**UPDATE** Sayre Fire – Freeways Opened

The 5, 14 and 210 are now open in both directions although some offramps may still be closed.

**UPDATE** Sayre Fire – Road Closures

Per the CHP, Placerita Canyon is CLOSED between SR 14 and Sand Canyon in Santa Clarita, until further notice.

All Current Road Closures:

* The I-5 has been CLOSED in both directions until further notice, from the 126 to the 118 and The Old Road are CLOSED through the Newhall Pass.

* The 14 freeway is CLOSED from San Fernando Rd to the I-5. 

* Placerita Canyon is CLOSED between SR 14 and Sand Canyon until further notice.

* The I-5 and 405 freeways are CLOSED northbound from the 118.

* The 210 freeway is CLOSED in both directions between the I-5 and the 118 freeways.

* The Hubbard off ramp is closed.

THE RED FLAG WARNING IS NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 PM PST SUNDAY. AREAS OF NORTHEAST WINDS 15 TO 25 MPH WITH LOCAL GUSTS TO 35 MPH WILL CONTINUE BELOW PASSES AND CANYONS THIS MORNING… DIMINISHING TO 10 TO 20 MPH THIS AFTERNOON… CONTINUING THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING. WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO FURTHER DIMINISH BY SUNDAY AFTERNOON. WIDESPREAD SINGLE DIGIT HUMIDITIES ARE EXPECTED TODAY AND SUNDAY… WITH RECOVERIES GENERALLY IN THE 10 TO 20 PERCENT RANGE TONIGHT ACROSS FOOTHILL AND BREEZY LOCATIONS.

Sayre (Sylmar) Fire Information

At approximately 10:30 p.m. Friday, November 14, 2008, a large fire broke out in Sylmar, just north of the 210 and I-5 freeways, named the Sayer Fire. High winds exceeding 50 miles per hour quickly whipped the flames across over 100 acres in one hour. Los Angeles City and Los Angeles County fire crews are on scene.

TRAFFIC UPDATE: 11/15/08 –9 a.m.

* The I-5 has been CLOSED in both directions until further notice, from the 126 to the 118 and The Old Road are CLOSED through the Newhall Pass.

* The 14 freeway is CLOSED from San Fernando Rd to the I-5. 

* The I-5 and 405 freeways are CLOSED northbound from the 118.

* The 210 freeway is CLOSED in both directions between the I-5 and the 118 freeways.

METROLINK UPDATE:

As of 6:05 am today, Antelope Valley Line Saturday service has been CANCELLED due to the closure of Metrolink’s tracks in the area of the Sylmar/Sayre fire.  There is no estimate of when the tracks will be reopened.  Trains and crews involved in operating Antelope Valley Line Saturday service do not operate service today on other lines so no other weekend service is affected at this time.


NON SANTA CLARITA EVACUATIONS: (11/15/08–9:15 a.m.)

* Currently, evacuations are in place for everything north of the 210, east of the I-5 and west of Hubbard.

* In North Granada Hills, all areas west of Balboa and East of Reseda

* The shelter at Sylmar High School is FULL and cannot take any more evacuees Other shelters are open at San Fernando High School, Chatsworth High School and Kennedy High School are serving as the evacuation centers.

* Large animals can be evacuated to the Hansen Dam.

* Olive View Medical Center is now being evacuated.

* 5,000 people have been evacuated so far.
