Crown Fire

Since Thursday (July 29, 2010) afternoon the Crown fire has burned approximately 8,000 acres in Northern Los Angeles County (Acton Area) and is 5% contained. The fire is burning towards portions of the Leona Valley and Palmdale area. The fire threatened approximately 2,000 residences which were ordered to evacuate. Mandatory evacuation orders, Ritter Ranch and Ana Verde areas have been lifted. There is a mandatory evacuation order for the Lake Elizabeth and Leona Valley area. Several Structures have been lost including 3 trailers and 1 single family residence and a number of outbuildings. Strike teams, air tankers, and over 500 personnel are fighting the fire. A Fire Management Assistance Grant was awarded by FEMA this morning. There are concerns about protecting the major power transmission lines in the area. Damage to these major lines could impact the California power grid.

I-5 North Bound Blocked *Update*

CHP is reporting that the Sigalert has been cancelled: I-5 North at Valencia Blvd in Santa Clarita.

All lanes are now open.

Valencia Blvd offramp reamins closed.

The Valencia Blvd off ramp is closed due to the accident.

Northbound exits at McBean Parkway and Magic Mountain remain open.
