I-5 Brush Fire Near Calgrove Blvd. in Santa Clarita

As reported by Los Angeles County Fire 3:50 pm.

There is a 20 acre brush fire near Calgrove Boulevard along the west side of the I-5 freeway. There is no containment yet. No homes are threatened and, as of 3:50, no traffic lanes on the 5 Freeway were closed. Los Angeles County Fire reported no containment.

California Highway Patrol is reporting slow moving traffic on southbound I-5 through Santa Clarita, but confirmed no lane closures at this time.

In regards to smoke being reported in the northern portion of the Santa Clarita Valley, Los Angeles County Fire is reporting a training burn happening at the Pitchess Detention Center. The training burn is completely unrelated to the incident near Calgrove and I-5.

Air Quality Alert #9 for Friday, September 4

Unhealthy air quality for all individuals in San Gabriel Mountains, West & East San Gabriel Valley, East San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita Valley

LOS ANGELES – According to the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD), smoke from the Station Fire near La Cañada has caused poor air quality that affects all individuals in the San Gabriel Mountains, the West and East San Gabriel Valley, the East San Fernando Valley, and the Santa Clarita Valley. Areas of direct smoke impact include the foothill communities of Altadena, La Cañada, Flintridge, La Crescenta, Tujunga, Sunland, Montrose and Acton. The Los Angeles County Health Officer, Dr. Jonathan E. Fielding, urges all individuals in these areas, or areas where there is visible smoke or the odor of smoke, to avoid unnecessary outdoor and indoor physical exertion, such as exercise.
