FIRE UPDATE: Rye Fire has burned 7,000 acres – 12/6 at 8:20 a.m.

As of 8 a.m. this morning the Rye Fire has burned 7,000 acres and is just 5% contained. There is no current active fire in the City, but the fire threat remains high as strong winds are expected to continue through Friday. Smoke can be seen to the south of Santa Clarita from the Creek Fire which is still burning out of control near Sylmar and has burned more than 11,000 acres.

According to the Southern California Edison outage center there is only one outage still affecting the City. Power is back on at the Newhall Community Center and they are open for business.

The Rye Fire did damage one outbuilding. Currently there are 775 firefighters battling the blaze.
