Update 1:14 p.m. (10/16)

Fire officials report Wednesday morning that the Saddleridge Fire is now 46% contained.

Update 9:03 a.m. (10/15)

Fire officials report Tuesday morning that the Saddleridge Fire has burned 8,391 acres and is now 45% contained.

Update 8:12 a.m. (10/13)

Cal Fire officials report that the Saddleridge Fire remained at 7,965 acres overnight and is now 41% contained.

Caltrans reports that all freeways, connectors and truck routes that were closed due to the fire are now open.

Cal Fire reports that as of 7:20 p.m. the Saddleridge Fire is at 7,965 acres in size and is now 33% contained.

Fire officials have lifted evacuation orders for those in the following areas:

  • West of Reseda Blvd., south of Sesnon Blvd. and north of the 118 Freeway in the San Fernando Valley
  • All areas north of the 210 Freeway and east of Interstate 5, including the Oak Ridge Mobile Estates
  • All areas west of Tampa Ave. and north of Sesnon Blvd. in the San Fernando Valley

There are no areas under evacuation in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Update 8:05 a.m. (10/12)

Fire officials have reported that the Saddleridge Fire burning outside of Santa Clarita remained at 7,542 acres overnight and is now 19% contained.

Update 5:50 p.m. (10/11)

The 14 Freeway has NOT been reopened as flames are creeping down near Newhall Avenue. It is expected to reopen shortly.

Update 5:28 p.m.

The following roads remain closed: The 210 freeway between the 118 and 405. All other closures have been lifted. The 14 northbound will have one lane right lane blocked for firefighter access only.

Update 5:00 p.m.

At a 5 p.m. press conference, it was announced that the Saddleridge Fire is 7,542 acres in size with 13% containment.

Update 3:21 p.m.

CHP reports that southbound lanes of the 5 freeway through Santa Clarita have been reopened. Northbound lanes remain closed and other closures remain in place.

Update 1:40 p.m.

LAFD officials reported that the Saddleridge Fire has grown to approximately 7,500 acres in size and is 13% contained.

Bella Vida, the SCV Senior Center, has advised the City that it will be closed for the remainder of the day.

Update 11:11 a.m.

All City drop-in and scheduled programming at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex Gymnasium and Aquatic Center are cancelled for the remainder of the day.

Update 10:51 a.m.

According to CHP and Caltrans officials, the 118 Freeway in the San Fernando Valley has reopened. An updated list of road closures can be found by clicking the Road Closures tab above.

Update 9:55 a.m.

Waste Management has informed the City that the Saddleridge Fire is causing significant service delays for customers with Friday pickups in Santa Clarita. Waste Management will conduct multiple collection routes for Saturday, October 12, to catch up on routes not completed Friday.

Update 8:57 a.m.

Metrolink trains on the Antelope Valley Line through Santa Clarita are NOT IN SERVICE today.

All City programming for Adult Sports, Youth Sports, Aquatics and contract classes has been cancelled for today.

Update 8:06 a.m.

CalArts is cancelling all classes today.

The Newhall Community Center and Canyon Country Community Center are CLOSED today.

Update 7:55 a.m.

College of the Canyons will be CLOSED today as well.

Primetime Preschool will be CLOSED at all locations today.

The Saddleridge Fire has now burned 4,700 acres with zero containment.

Update 7:41 a.m.

Castaic School District and Saugus Union schools will be CLOSED today.

A press conference is getting underway now at the Command Center.

Update 7:00 a.m. 

Traffic on the 126 is jammed with commuters trying to avoid the closures on Interstate 5, the Old Road and the 14 Freeway. If you don’t need to leave the City today, please stay off the roads.

There are reports of a power line down on Whites Canyon at Ranier in Canyon Country. If you see a downed power line, do not touch it and immediately call 9-1-1.

Update 6:30 a.m. 

The Hart District, Sulphur Springs and Newhall School Districts will be CLOSED today.

Update 5:30 a.m.

Traffic is jammed going southbound on Interstate 5 and the Old Road, which both still remain closed at Calgrove. You will not be able to get through on either route. The only way to get around is to take the 126 to the 101.

The Antelope Valley Line will NOT be running this morning due to fire near the tracks.

Santa Clarita Transit commuter routes are unable to operate because of the closures.

The fire is currently burning right up to the 14 Freeway. Once the sun comes up, winds are predicted to kick up again. Please remain alert.


Update 3:30 a.m.

Attn Commuters:  Due to the fire and associated freeway closures, all Santa Clarita Transit commuter routes are unable to operate at this time. We are monitoring the situation and will update as necessary if closures change.

Update 3:00 a.m.

The Saddleridge Fire has now burned 4,600 acres with 0% containment. The morning commute will be affected. The I-5 south will remain closed throughout the morning hours. People who need to get to Los Angeles or the San Fernando Valley will need to take the 126 to the 101 to get out of Santa Clarita.

Update 2:45 a.m.

The Saddleridge fire continues to burn out of control with 0% containment. Flames are visible south of Santa Clarita, but are currently moving slowly. However, winds can change at any time, and public safety officials caution to be prepared and review your Ready Set Go plan. For more information please visit


Update 2:00 a.m.

The Saddleridge Fire has burned more than 1,600 acres in the Sylmar, Porter Ranch and Granada Hills areas. Flames are visible on the ridge to the south of the Santa Clarita Valley.

Traffic Impacts: The southbound 14 is closed at Newhall Avenue, Sierra Highway at Newhall Ave, Interstate 5 southbound is closed at Calgrove and the Old Road is closed at Calgrove.

Power Outages: So Cal Edison has shut down the Calgrove circuit, which covers the majority of Newhall, currently 1,886 customers are without power in that area.
